Applications for cultural and artistic projects are forwarded for expert assessment

The Lithuanian Council for Culture has completed the administrative check of the applications for cultural and artistic projects for Funding Stage I, 2022. A total of 1939 applications were submitted for competitions to fund 10 fields of art and 25 cultural programmes and their activities. After rejecting 26 initiatives that failed to pass the administrative check, 1913 applications from cultural and artistic organisations were forwarded for expert assessment. 

1039 applications were submitted for the fields of art. The largest number of applications was submitted for competitions in the fields of music (247), literature (243), theatre (175), pictorial art (115) and interdisciplinary art (79). Also, 53 photography, 49 dance, 32 architecture, 31 design and 15 circus initiatives were presented. 

A total of 68 applications were submitted for strategic funding programmes. There were 11 applications submitted by cultural and artistic organisations for the Strategic Funding of Amateur Art Events, 17 – for the Strategic Funding of Organisations of Art Creators, 15 – for the Strategic Funding of International Events, 6 – for the Strategic Funding of Associations and Umbrella Organisations, and 17 – for the Strategic Funding of Cultural and/or Art Products and/or Services. Also, 1 application was submitted for the competition for funding of the International Music Performance Art Competitions and the National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. 

A total of 213 applications were submitted for the activities of the Memory Institutions Programme. 43 initiatives were submitted for the Activities in Restoration and Research of Cultural Values, 6 – for the Activities of International and Inter-Institutional Cooperation, 10 – for the Activities of Mobility of Museum Collections, 51 – for the Dissemination of Culture and Art, and 103 – for the Activities of the Development of Innovative Services. 

52 applications were submitted to the Cultural and Creative Industries Programme: 23 initiatives were launched for the Activities of Cultural Start-ups and 29 for Networking Activities. 57 applications for publications were submitted to the Humanities Literature Programme. 61 initiatives were submitted to the Competition under the Art for Human Welfare Programme. 

11 initiatives were submitted for the Activities of Conceptualisation of Memory and Civic Education: 3 applications were submitted for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage, and 8 for Events of State Significance. 65 initiatives were submitted for the Initiatives of Creative Communities, 10 for the Small Capitals of Culture of Lithuania, and 24 Initiatives for Qualification Improvement. Representatives of Cultural Heritage submitted 64 applications, and representatives of Ethnic Culture and Intangible Heritage submitted 93 applications. 182 applications were submitted to the Education Culture Programme: 32 Cultural Education and 150 Children and Youth Cultural Initiatives. 

It is planned that the results of the first stage of funding for culture and art projects in 2022 will be announced by the end of February next year. 

The Lithuanian Council for Culture consists of Chairperson, musicologist Asta Pakarklytė, representative of ethnic minorities Dainius Babilas, actress Dr Elzė Gudavičiūtė-Puskunigė, theatre critic Vaidas Jauniškis, musicologist Jūratė Katinaitė, historian Dr Rimvydas Laužikas, sculptor and film-maker Deimantas Virgilijus Narkevičius, architect Rolandas Palekas, literary critic Dr Dainius Vaitiekūnas, cultural manager Rita Valiukonytė, and ethnologist Dr Aušra Žičkienė.
