First grants awarded to Ukrainian creators who have taken refuge in Lithuania

The Lithuanian Council for Culture has awarded the first grants to Ukrainian creators who had taken refuge in Lithuania. 9 three-month grants have been awarded to creators in the fields of architecture, libraries, circus, fine art, design, ethnic culture and folk art, photography, cultural heritage, literature, museums, music, dance, interdisciplinary art, and theatre.

Since the launch of this measure supporting Ukrainian creators affected by the Russian hostilities in April, the Lithuanian Council for Culture has already received 18 applications. The applications are accepted on the website of the Lithuanian Council for Culture on a continuous basis, registered every week, and the results are notified to the applicants no later than within a month.

The purpose of this financing programme of the Lithuanian Council for Culture is to support the creative activities of Ukrainian culture and art creators who have taken refuge in Lithuania and to promote their cooperation with the Lithuanian cultural community in the fields of architecture, libraries, circus, fine art, design, ethnic culture and folk art, photography, cultural heritage, literature, museums, music, dance, interdisciplinary art, and theatre.

The grants are open to citizens of Ukraine of full age who are culture and professional art creators and who have been granted temporary protection in Lithuania (a registration card issued by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania). The grant in the amount of EUR 1 800 can be awarded once for a period of three months. Applications can be submitted electronically in Lithuanian or English. Applicants must enclose their curriculum vitae (CV) and the description of creative activities as well as the letter of cooperation with Lithuanian cultural organisations. In order to promote cooperation between the Lithuanian and Ukrainian cultural communities in this difficult period, the Ministry of Culture together with the Lithuanian Council for Culture have developed a database of Lithuanian culture and art organisations willing to cooperate with Ukrainian creators, thus hoping that creators will not have any difficulty in finding supportive Lithuanian cultural institutions.

Ukrainian creators’ applications are evaluated and one-off grants are awarded by the meeting of members of the Lithuanian Council for Culture. Further information on the terms and conditions of the submission of applications is available in Lithuanian, English and Ukrainian at www.ltkt.lt and www.ltkt.lt/en.
